Kona joined in with the laughter, and Kaleena found she couldn't stop. It was so nice to just be able to let go with someone. That was something she couldn't do much at home, with all the servants around. Kona was certainly a keeper! Then, he held her in a tight embrace. Kaleena was shocked. Holding hands, yes, that was one thing. Giving her a very tight hug, so she was pressed up against him, in a public place! That was another. A blush spread across Kaleena's face, until thankfully Kona released her.
Why did you save me, back where all those people were?
Blush still covering much of her face, Kaleena looked down at the ground when she answered, unable to look him in the face after the embrace. "Well, +Anima like you are sold as slaves here. I'm against that. I don't think anyone should be sold as a slave." She looked up at him, blush slightly fading. She didn't want to tell him too much, but she couldn't just not answer. "I saw you, well... snarling up there. I thought, well, you might need me." Kaleena smiled, with just a hint of red in her cheeks now. "That's the only reason!"

'Slaves...' Kona thought he knew what that word meant, sort of when people do things for other, more important people. Did that mean Kona wasnt important...or maybe it just implied that Kaleena was more important than him. He could live with that! Kaleena was special, he already knew that, and anyone who was so kind was obviously important, to him anyway. Still, the word 'Slave' didnt sound nice...
I saw you snarling up there... Bad! Snarling was bad, and she'd seen him being bad, oh no... Kona felt a pang of guilt in his chest, and held his free hand there, as if the pain was physical. To him, it was. He didnt want Kaleena to dissapear, like all the other nice people. But she had laughed, and didnt appear mad at him...
'Kaleena, you said i need you, but if i'm a slave, and you bought me, then doesnt that mean you need me?' You didnt buy things unless you needed them, right? Important people need slaves to do things for them, and they buy fancy things because they need them...because they are important?, because fancy things make them important? But if important people need slaves, doesnt that make slaves more important than the important people? Kona was getting confused, and his ears twitched. Maybe it worked the other way around. After all, Kona did need Kaleena, she was the embodiment of everything he could ever want.

(lol. LOVE Kona's thoughts here. They make sense!)
Slaves...
Kaleena wasn't sure if Kona knew what a slave was, or that he had been one, if he was saying the word out loud. She felt bad for him. She couldn't imagine being a slave. But now, he was with her, so it wouldn't be so bad. She wasn't mean to the slaves she bought, unlike some people. And to her, at least, they became part of the family. Not to her parents, though. That's why she had to keep her slaves away from them, otherwise who knew what would happen!
Kaleena, you said I need you, but if I'm a slave, and you bought me, then doesn't that mean you need me?
Kaleena was surprised at the depth of Kona's question. He was interesting. Sometimes acting like a child, sometimes having thoughts that seemed to be way over his head... She was glad, once again, that she picked him. "Well... I don't need any slaves... My family has servants back home that take care of everything I need. But..." She sighed. "Servants don't make good friend." Except Lia. She's a pretty good friend. "And like I said, I don't like slavery. So, I guess I do sort of need you. All of the +Anima slaves I buy become my friends!" Kaleena smiled at Kona, glad to find a way to explain it. Every word of that was true. Except the part where her parents disapproved. She didn't like explaining that part to her new friends/slaves.

((XD i know, i was literally typing it all down as i was thinking of it, and i must have used the word 'important' about 100 times, lol))
So Kaleena was buying friends....Kona had always assumed that friendship was free. It felt odd that she should have to pay for him. Oh yeah, she'd paid for him. Why would you do that? Most people dont even like it when he's around, why would she want to pay money just to be with him...just to be friends? Then he remembered, she needed him, and he needed her....and he remembered the first man and his horrid voice. It was that man that had screamed for money, he didnt want friends, he just wanted money...Money must be bad, no wonder Kaleena gave hers away in exchange for Kona. friends were much better.
Kona smiled at her with new admiration and gratitude. Not only did she consider him important, she considered him more important than money!
'how much money is the same as me?' He hadnt really been paying attention before. 'I mean, how much did you buy me for?' Slaves must be expensive, because they are so important.

How much money is the same as me? I mean, how much did you buy me for?
Kaleena's smile faded. "Umm... I'm not really sure. I didn't pay any attention to the price." After all, no matter how high it was, it wouldn't have mattered. She had all the money in the world. She could afford practically anything. She turned around, letting go of Kona's hand. "Lia!"
Lia appeared from where she was following. She was glad that she could observe them now. She never understood Kaleena's fascination with +Anima, and she didn't trust this one. It had been snarling on the platform. Something was wrong with it. "Yes?"
Kaleena gestured toward Kona. "Hey, Lia, how much did I pay for Kona?" "Two thousand, five hundred gillers, I believe." "Thanks, Lia." Kaleena turned back to Kona, forgetting to grab his hand again. "There's your answer!" She smiled, glad to be able to tell him. She would feel bad if she couldn't remember. Usually, any questions +Anima asked soon after she bought them were important, and she liked to be able to answer them. Behind them, Lia slipped out of view again.

Kona moved back a few steps when the other girl appeared. That's right, Kaleena had said she was a friend, so he didnt need to be wary, returning to Kaleena's side once again. 2500 gillah...Was that alot? Kona wasnt so familiar with currency, afterall, he didnt ever use money, he had no need for it.
'So you paid 2500 gillah for our friendship' hmm...so if this friendship was worth that much, then under what circumstances would the price be more or less? Surely you'd have to pay more to be friends with more important people. But Kona was a slave, he was very important, so 2500 must be alot. That made him feel good. Hi, i'm Kona, and i'm worth 2500 gillah!
Then he realised Kaleena had let go of his hand. Was something wrong? He fidgeted on the spot, feeling strangely detached from everything. Gaze wandering elsewhere, he watched some people walk past with funny collars on their necks, and they stared back. He brought a hand up to his own neck, why wasnt there any collar on him? A broken shackle on his wrist, but no collar on his neck.
'What do the collars mean?' he asked, turning back to Kaleena and playing with his shackle.

So you paid 2500 gillers for our friendship...
Kaleena was starting to think that either there was something wrong with Kona in the head, or he was very detached from the world around him. Very. Still... He didn't seem like he could cause any harm. It was okay if he acted a bit more like an animal than other +Animas, but... If he hurt anyone, that'd be the end. He didn't seem like he'd hurt a fly, though!
What do the collars mean?
"Oh!" exclaimed Kaleena, surprised. "They mean that you're a slave! Yours is at my house." She grabbed his hand. "Speaking of which, we might want to hurry. My dad won't like it if I'm back too late."

Kona giggled as he was suddenly grabbed and tugged along.
Yours is at my house. Soon he would have his very own collar, like the other +animas! And that would mean he belonged to Kaleena, he would be her slave, no-ones elses. No-one would hurt him, and he wouldnt hurt anyone, because he was Kaleenas now. That thought made him feel so secure, and a dreamy look appeared on his face as he tried to take in the whole concept. Pretty soon he was so overcome by everything that he had no room for bad feelings, and couldnt understand why Kaleena was hurrying. It would be much more fun to just slow down and savour every moment.
'Why...Whats wrong with being late?'

Why... Whats wrong with being late?
"My dad likes me home by a certain time, and we're pushing that limit right now. He's kind of strict." Kaleena began slowing down. "We're almost home, anyway." She had slowed down to a walk, and she stopped abruptly in front of a large, Vicotorian-looking mansion. It was at least four floors high, and had dozens of windows and towers.
"This is my house!" Kaleena exclaimed, pointing up at it with her free hand. She turned to Kona, a half-worried expression on her face. "Do you like it?" Behind them, Lia slipped away and entered through the servant's door. Looking back with distrust at the +Anima boy, she walked out of view.

Woah. Kona gazed up at the building, eyes wide. This was Kaleena's house? This wasnt a house, it was too big for just Kaleena. She must be alot more important than he'd first imagined. Silently his intent stare swept over everything, the many windows that sparkled in the sun, the strangely shaped roof, the general opulency of the exterior, it was something he'd never seen before.
Do you like it?
Kona remained quiet for a while, just taking in everything. It was certainly pretty, but how could he judge at this stage? 'I dont know, i dont know the house, i cant say i like it if i dont know it' There was more to a home than first impressions, and a house was something you needed, not something you bought because you liked. Maybe that wasnt true, Kaleena was important, maybe she could have any house she wanted, but chose this one because she liked it. How strange. As far as Kona was concerned, if a house did its job properly, he'd have no reason not to like it.
Without meaning to, he started voiceing his thoughts. 'Houses are like people, they can look nice on the outside, but...' He paused, looking at her. It was difficult to explain how he felt.

I don't know, I don't know the house, I can't say I like it if I don't know it.
Kaleena giggled. She thought that was funny. All she wanted to know was whether he thought it looked nice. She thought that they should maybe repaint it a different color, but she lived in it... Her opinion was usually biased.
Houses are like people, they can look nice on the outside, but...
Kaleena nodded. "I get what you're saying. People can look nice, but they can be really mean. Same with houses." She released Kona's hand, and walked toward the gate barring their way. "Marvin! It's Kaleena! Can you open the gate?" she called out, peering through the metal bars.

Kaleena giggled again, and Kona smiled. He wasnt quite sure what was so funny, but it pleased him that he could make her laugh, atleast. Then she spoke, and in just a few words she summed up what he was trying to explain. How could she do that so easily, why couldnt he ever make his words simple like her? Kona glanced up at the big house again, trying to find something wrong with it, something that might make it a mean house.
Then Kaleena broke off and went to call someone. Kona stayed back, still occupied with his little searching game. After a while he knew he was fighting a losing battle; the building was perfect in every way, and he should just accept that, not try to ruin it.

A middle-aged man peered through the bars. "I'll open right away, Misstress Kaleena." Kaleena smiled at him. "Thanks, Marvin!" He tipped his hat, and slipped out of view. Within a few seconds, the gate creaked open. "Have a good day, miss!"
Kaleena walked back to where Kona was standing, studying the house. "Come on, Kona. The gate's open now." She grabbed his hand, smiling. "I can't wait to show you around!" And I can't wait to introduce you to my other +Anima friends, but she didn't want to say that. She never knew how they would react to the news that they weren't the only one she had. Anyway, if they didn't hurry, Dad would come out, and get mad.

The gate's open? The gate was open, how did that happen? Kona had been too focused on the house to register the arrival, and then departure, of the man Marvin, and did a double take on the gate, which seemed to have opened on its own accord. Maybe this was a nice house, it even welcomed them, welcomed him. How nice! 'Thankyou house'
He smiled and followed Kaleena inside. She still seemed to be moving too fast, but she wanted to show him around. How did that work? you couldnt be shown something if you werent allowed to slow down long enough to see it. Kona wanted to slow down and see it! He wanted to just stand still and use his eyes, his ears, all of his senses so he could Know the house. Then he might decide he liked it. But he didnt want to do anything that might anger or upset Kaleena, he needed her, and she needed him. So Kona kept up, albeit with some confusion.

Thank you house.
Kona was so cute! Saying thank you to a house! Kaleena smiled, walking up the final steps to the front door. Throwing it open, she yelled inside, "I'm home!"
"Kaleena!" squealed two excited voices, giving Kaleena a small warning before two little shapes lunged at her. "You're back!" Kaleena grinned at the +Anima twins, both with a Fox +Anima, and ruffled their orange hair. They were both five years old. There was Shippo, the male twin, and Sheeta, the female twin. They were identical in every way, except for Sheeta's long braided hair. Now, with their +Animas deactivated, they squeezed Kaleena, excited that she was home.
