How do you usually decide what anime you want to watch? Do you go looking for a particular genre you enjoy? Do you ask a friend’s opinion? Or do you just pick and choose at random? What I’ve found is that a good way to gauge whether or not I’ll enjoy a particular anime is to just watch the show’s opening. Opening sequences are wonderful! They contain powerful and iconic music, give you an insight on a characters looks and troubles, and often have improved animation than the actual show! Another good feature is that they very rarely spoil any important plot twists or details. This is a game that may help you discover a great new obsession anime to enjoy! My goal here is, with everyone’s help, to create a small database of favorite anime as chosen by likeminded people (us). If any of us ever feels the need to watch something new, they can simply refer to this thread! If you feel the need to advertise for you favorite anime, you should use this thread to show it to us! Here’s the format: Name of Anime: Type: Genre: Warnings: Opening: (Either a link to it, or embedded.) Why you enjoy it: Rules:1. Only one anime and opening per post. 2. Since this is a game, and I’d like to get everyone involved, no double posting. 3. No Naruto, One Piece, or Bleach. Everybody knows about them, so what’s the point? I’ve got this feeling that nobody will want to post here. Oh, well. I’ll go first!

Name of Anime: Soul Eater Type: Shounen Genre: Fighting, comedy, supernatural Warnings: Violence Opening: www.youtube.com/watchv=ByhugLJo2cE&feature=fvstWhy you enjoy it: It’s a hilarious anime with great humor. The characters are extremely loveable and the fighting sequences are awesome. Plot-wise, it’s typical fighting-style anime, but the story is still very interesting and full of intrigue. This is one of my favorite anime~

Name of Anime: Princess Tutu Type: Shojo Genre: I can't think of it Warnings: Notin Opening: Why you enjoy it: Its rather funny, but as you get more into the episodes, it gets more serious and can get really, really deep into the character's emotions.

Name of Anime: Inuyasha Type: Shounen Genre: Fighting, Romance, heck, it fights anywhere! Warnings: Violence and mild language
Why you enjoy it: It's a great mix of a lot of genres, and a very original idea. Its really funny, too, but it can also be very in depth with the characters as you find out more about them. Every single one of the characters is perfect in every way, from the pervert to the high schooler to the demon to the old lady. It's about five or six years old, but its a classic.

I can think of so many that I'm not sure which one to do... I guess I'll go with my favorite currently airing anime (its currently at episode 19 out of 25).
Name of Anime: Pandora Hearts Type: Shounen Genre: Fantasy, Supernatural Warnings: Violence Opening:
Why you enjoy it: It's got an intriguing, suspenseful plot, lovable characters, both funny, lighthearted moments and dark, emotional moments, a great atmosphere, and an awesome soundtrack! The plot has a lot of mystery from the very beginning, and as it goes on so far it's had enough twists to keep it from ever getting stale.

Name of Anime: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Type: Seinen Genre: Dark comedy, drama Warnings: Slight mature content Opening:
Why you enjoy it: Well, it's an anime based on my most favorite manga ever. It's a hilarious comedy filled to the brim with amazing characters. It has an original and innovative artform designed to look like Japanese madoku paintings. The show parodies problems that everyone has to face, only twists them around in such a way that they're barely recognizable by the end of the episode. It makes fun of everything from religion to politics to pop culture. Unexpectedly, it often makes references to other anime (A girl happens to have a LelouchXSuzaku poster on her wall, somebody stops in a store to buy 'Ichigo 1000%' manga). It's a wonderfully clever anime.

Name of Anime: Fruits Basket Type: Shoujo Genre: Romance, Fantasy? Warnings: Mild Language
Why you enjoy it: The opening doesn't do it justice. Just saying. Its a cute little romance story that has a unique twist, and its fun to watch. It's nothing serious, plotwise, but it's so cute watching the main boys get shocked again and again by the main girl's selfless actions.

Name of Anime: Axis Powers Hetalia
Type: Historical
Genre: Humor
Warnings: Do not watch if your easily offended by someone poking fun at your country!!t
Opening: sorry! it doesn't have an opening- just five minute episodes each week. This is the first episode with english subs.
Why you enjoy it: Ah.. there are so many wonderful things about hetalia.. Basically, it personifies countries as people giving them all the well-known stereotypes of their nationality. For instance- America loves hamburgers and always insists on being the hero. It is currently focused on WW2- it's extremely beneficial i've found. One of my friends actually went up a grade in History after watching this!! No joke!
Depending on the episode- it's funny and the art c'est tres bon! But if you're really anime touchy- like Hanner from Hanner's anime blog-it may take some time for it to grow on you.

Name of Anime: Hatenkou Yuugi/Dazzle Type: Genre: Fantasy Why you enjoy it: All the characters are so confusing, and the plot seems to be so random... It's addicting, has fighting, and takes place in a different world. And, there's basically no introduction... If you can last some confusion, it's a brilliant anime!

Name of Anime: Air (sometimes called Air T.V., as there is also a movie, but I don't personally think it's as good) Type: Seinen Genre: Tragedy, Fantasy, Supernatural, Romance Warnings: (Some) Violence Opening:
Why you enjoy it: It's a very emotional and sad anime with pretty animation and a beautiful soundtrack. The story is a bit confusing at first, and it's one of those animes where you have to think while you watch it, but it's the most moving one that I've ever seen.

Name of Anime: Elemental Gelade Type: I'd say shonen....with some shojo bits Genre: Fantasy/romance Warnings: well..its pretty harmless to an extent but yeah, there are fight scenes and such Opening:
Why you enjoy it: Its not my favourite anime, but its still nice. The animation is lovely to watch, and the characters are all likeable. There is a good balance between the tender lovey dovey moments, and the battle scenes and awesome weapons i've come to love in anime. The series has a theme of music, and that is reflected in each episode with some pretty background music. The characters also have some good comedy lines; i like funny. I'm sure theres better shows in existence, but this one kept me entertained for a while; i get bored on my laptop often. oh yeah, the opening theme is lovely also.

Name of Anime: xXxHolic
Type: Seinen
Genre: Supernatural, horror, romance, comedy
Warnings: Slight alcohol references?
Opening:
Why you enjoy it: It has magic. Not the 'wave a wand' or 'Cinderella' type of magic, but a magic grounded in reality that can either monumentally help you or destroy you utterly. This is a great show if you like symbolism. It deals with the prices everyone has to pay in life, but personified and represented by certain characters. It's also a great show to learn about aspects of Japanese culture and 'myths'.

Name of Anime: Cardcaptor Sakura
Type: Shoujo
Genre: Magical Girl
Warnings: None
Why you enjoy it: Well, I'm not very far in it, but it's a cute anime. It's a bit kiddish, but the characters are cute, and the animation is pretty good. It's not deep, but it's not really a comedy, but if you're looking for an anime for light watching, it's perfect. Kero is awesome, too! ^^

Name of Anime: Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
Type: Shounen, apparently. But personally, I'd call it Shojo. Genre: Fantasy, fighting, romance, scifi
Warnings: None Opening:
Why you enjoy it: This is the sequel to Card Captor Sakura. It's the tragic story of Syoaron and Sakura... from an alternate dimension. I don't want to spoil anything, but the plot is awesome. The soundtrack is incredible, the characters are extremely fun, and you even get to see characters from other shows created by Clamp. I highly recommend it to anyone who's watched Card Captor, xXxHolic, or any other Clamp show.

Name of Anime: Ouran High School Host Club
Type: Shoujo
Genre: Gender Bender, romance, comedy, drama
Warnings: None
Why you enjoy it: I love gender benders, especially girls dressed as boys, and this ones gotta be one of the best. All of the characters are so cute, and the fact that most, if not all of them, have a crush on the main is the funniest. Especially because within the host club, there's "Daddy", "Mommy", "Daughter/Sister", "Sons/Brothers/Twins", and the "Neighbors". I have to say that the comedy is the best part of the whole thing, and the lengths the boys will go to make the main girl stay with them.
