I smiled and stood while gently scratched the word 'we go alot' into the underside of my arm, waited until the skin turned white then showed it to her.
It was good to be around such a sunny disposition. And a girl for that matter, it is always hard for me to remember being around around a girl. Perhaps that one long ago that gave me some fish soup. And luckily, Shaw never dragged any girls home. huh, not that they would probably even go out with him for that matter. I shared a private giggle with myself. Although I was very glad with the attitude Anya- I loved Shaw- but he wasn't always very happy. Rather smash-my-head-into-a-wall stubborn.
I grabbed the wrap I had used that morning from the back of a chair and tossed it to Anya. Then I went into Shaw's room and snatched another. He wouldn't mind- there was bound to be some extra clothing somewhere on our schooner.

Anya frowned slightly at whatever Skip scratched into his arm. It was letters, she knew that much, but she couldn't read. Her Daddy had never thought it was that important, so she never learned. She'd have to ask Mr. Magical Otter or Skip to teach her laters. Slipping into the wrap Skip gave her, which was WAY too big, she danced from foot to foot, waiting for the boy. Since she didn't see where Mr. Magical Otter went, she had to follow Skip, so she'd have to wait for him.
"Let's go! Let's go!" Anya announced impatiently, though she was still bright and cheery.

I smiled and sat down, trying to subtly will Anya to sit and wait. I hadn't seen this kind of energy in such a long time.
"Hey!" Shaw called from outside, "i coul' use some 'elp!"
I stood and held out my hand for the girl to take, jerking my head toward the door. Time to go.

Why was Skip sitting? They had to go! At Mr. Magical Otter's call, Anya looked in his direction, outside, before taking Skip's hand, pulling him behind her.
Stopping just outside the door, Anya stood at attention, grinning. "Readys for duty, Mr. Magical Otter, sir!" she announced gleefully, saluting. She wasn't sure exactly what duty she was getting ready for, but he would probably explain it.

Skip~ I took the girl's hand and lead her down the beach near where I had first met her. We walked until we came across a small cave with a dull light coming from it. I ducked inside and walked down a small passageway shorn out of the sand-stone until we reached the huge main chamber where the schooner , I glanced at the scarlet lettering etched into the hull "Red Pride". Shaw had wanted to name it something like "Sea Sword" or "Devil's Howl" but I quickly shot down those ideas being as they were- too pirate. Shaw was disappointed, understandably so- he was always more pirate that 'humble fisherman' as he put it.
"Oi! Cap'in!" Skip yelled, leaning over the starboard side, "bring tha landlubber an' let's get goin'!"
That's me. I led Anya up the gangway. Once up, Shaw grinned at us. "Alrigh' cap'in! Forewar'?"
I nodded and went to the wheel.

Anya glanced around as she was brought onto the strange boat. It reminded her of the ones in the story books her Daddy read to her when he was still nice. As Skip went away to go to the big wheel on the ship, she looked around curiously, with wide eyes, trying to take in everything she could.
She walked over to Mr. Magical Otter, peering up at him with big eyes. "Mr. Magical Otter, sir, can I dos something? I wanna help on the boat!" Anya grinned happily, hoping she could have something exciting to do. It would be so much fun!

Shaw~ I bent down and patted her on the head, "Of course missie. An' me name's Shaw, real easy to rem'mer, a'ight?" I glanced up at Skip, "Tha' okay cap'in" He nodded and held up a hand palm-out. I turned back towards Anya. " 'e sez ya can be-a deckhan'."
Skip whistled loudly at me and pushed up with his hands. I nodded and gave a quick salute, "Aye cap'in! Aweigh!" I motioned at Anya, "C'n ya take care of the ropes towards me aft?" Or the back of the ship, but she seemed to understand.
I went to a horizontal wheel coming from the deck and began to turn it, raising the Danford (much lighter than a Yachtsman). The beauty of this cave was it was deep enough so that our ship wouldn't scrape the bottom, but shallow enough so the irritating sea creatures didn't get to it. Also, the current that was generated also assisted in getting teh boat in and out, easy.
Skip skillfully steered the schooner out of the tight gap, minding both sides and maintaining a calm face until we were out in the Opal sea.

Shaw. Not Mr. Magical Otter. Well, she still liked callin him that, but she wouldn't call him that to his face. That way, it was a compromise! Grinning at her smartness, she saluted Shaw. "Aye Aye!" With that, she ran towards the back of the ship. Without Shaw's motions, she wouldn't have been able to know where to go, but now she did.
There was a pile of ropes at the back, and one of the ropes was hanging over the edge. Gritting her teeth, Anya grabbed the rope, slowly pulling it back onto the boat. Almost immediately after the rope had been pulled slightly ship started moving, albeit slowly. The rope was heavy, for some reason, though, and the moving ship made it harder. Grateful now that her hands were bandaged, otherwise the rope might've hurt, Anya slowly pulled up the rope, inch by inch.
As the rope came out of the water, a strange metal thing broke to the surface. No wonder the rope was so heavy! After what seemed like forever, the metal thingy came over the edge. Finally! Disentangling herself from the ropes, Anya ran back to Shaw, hoping that he wouldn't give her something to use her arms with. They sort of hurt. She stopped in front of him, saluting. "Metal thingy on deck!"

Shaw~ "'aye, lassie." I said with a smile.
Then looked to Skip, "Oi! Skipper! We ready?" He looked down and smiled, giving me the thumbs up.
I squatted and filled Anya in, "Ya see, Skipper thar, 'e's tha cap'in of that "Red Pride", If ya wanna job, then ya gotta ask 'im, savvy?" I grinned up at Skip, "A'ight!"
He blushed slightly- embarrassed. I tapped Anya on the head, "'ow about ya 'elp me wiff that there mainsail, Aye? I wantcha' ta get the ropes as they come down- an' hold em till I come down, a'ight?"

"Get ropes when come down. Hold them." Anya grinned at Shaw. "Gotcha!" she told him, before rushing off to the mainsail. There was already one rope down, and she held onto it with all of her might, putting all of her small six-year-old body weight onto it. "I gots the rope!" she announced, straining hard to keep the rope down. A bead of sweat rolled down from her hairline, and down her cheek.
[Wasn't sure what to do, so this post sucks...]

(^^; sorry! I got carried away- I'll explain the sailing terms as they come)
Shaw~ I looked down at the girl straining on the rope, "Oi!" I called down, "Jus' hold 'em, ya don't haffta 'urt yerself!"
I undid the last couple and Anya got all of the ropes. Climbing down I took the ropes one by one and tied then to the red-tinted timber.
Jumping to the main deck, I smiled at the blue-haired girl. "I'm gonna teach ya ta fish, a'ight? Follow me to the midship an 'elf me wiff the net, kay?"
I began to go down the stairs.

(I know some, from reading, though not many. Like I know starboard, port, mainsail, and all the general areas of the boat. 'Sides that, not much.)
Anya still held on hard to the ropes, cause she knew that if she didn't strain and put all her weight on, the rope would go away. As each new rope came down, she quickly grabbed onto it, holding it tight, though she was worried that she would accidently let go. However, she didn't, and Shaw came down to take them from her. She held them tightly in her bandaged hands as he took them one by one and tied them.
At his words, she grinned, quickly following. "Fishings! I know hows to fish with the stick and the string!" Anya wasn't sure what it was called. "My Daddy's friend taught mes! Buts I never fished with a net before!" The girl blabbered on, positively delighted. "Itsa gotta be hard to cast, with the BIG net, and ALL its holes!"

Anya nodded, delighted that she'd be able to learn to fish another way, and hopefully get better at it. Following Shaw's instructions, she placed the net on her shoulder, almost tripping over part of it. Because of her shortness, she ended up holding some of it in her arms, making her thankful that she always wore long sleeves. "I gots it!" she announced to Shaw, trying to copy him as best as she could.
"It'sa very big! And long! How many fishies could ya catch with this?" Anya asked inquisitively, tilting her head to the side.

IC: Shaw~ We reemerged and I shivered in the frigid ocean breeze, I dragged the net with Anya's help to the center and deposited it, "hey- i gotta go grab some more cloth, it be cold out!" I left her to go midship and grab a little more clothing, it was winter after all.
