Alice quickly stuffed more mouthfuls of noodles and chicken in her mouth, noticing that Kalas' had finished his salad. Not wanting to be the one keeping them from the inn, she hurried it up, wrapping bigger bites of noodles around her fork.
The quiet following the last song didn't remain long - the miners all at one raised their voices in another tune. She cringed a bit, hearing Miss Jane's voice amongst a few others hit an achingly off note on the first line as they began. They seemed to even out a bit after that, but it still wasn't especially pleasant to listen to.
She hurriedly swallowed down the last bit of her dinner, even more eager to get out now. Was this going to go on all night? "Okay. Finished!" She announced, glancing around. Were they supposed to go up to the desk, or wait at the table for the waiter?
The waiter seemed to catch her gaze, though. "Are you two all finished here?" He asked, walking up to their table. "I can take your pay now if you're ready." He announced formally, still somehow acting as if the rest of the restaurant hadn't broke out in drunken song.

Kalas blinked, surprised, as the waiter came almost as soon as they were done eating. Were they the only ones not drinking and singing? It sure seemed like that. "Y-Yes, o-of course." Kalas stammered, reaching for his bag of money. Calculating the amount, he pressed exactly the right amount of coins into the waiter's hand, including a decently good tip. The waiter had been fast, although formal.
As the waiter nodded, formally, of course, at them and left, Kalas stood up in his chair, dropping his money back in his tight pocket. "L-Let's g-go, Alice." He stammered, having to speak loud over the crowd to make himself heard. The song was growing louder and louder, and the singing miners more and more out of tune.

"Sounds good!" Alice nodded eagerly, quickly getting up as well and grabbing Tessa. She headed for the door quickly, relieved to leave the song behind. The miner's had gotten so loud now that their singing could still be heard outside, though as they walked away from the building it slowly faded. Finally, peace!
Alice plopped back down in bed as they reached their room in the inn again. At least she wasn't hungry anymore. Though the thought of having to largely repeat today tomorrow - going to work in the mines, and then probably having to go eat again at the same restaurant - wasn't necessarily appealing. "We should probably get some rest..." She commented. "We're going to have to work again tomorrow."

Following quickly behind Alice, Kalas hurried through the night, sighing in relief as the singing faded away in the background. Thank goodness it was over! One more minute of that singing, and he'd have died! He can only imagine how bad it must've been for Tessa, with her sensitive cat ears.
Plopping down on his bed, Kalas nodded at Alice's words, yawning. "Y-Yeah." With that, he slid his feet out of his shoes, leaving them by the side of the bed, and slipped out of his shirt, exposing his very pale and skinny chest. Slightly embarrassed, he slipped into his bed, quickly sliding underneath the covers. "G-Good N-Night, Alice." he told her, facing away on the bed.

"Goodnight." Alice commented back, slipping off her own shoes. Sitting up briefly, she untied and pulled the bow out of her hair as well as the ones around her wrists. It was easier to sleep without them - she'd always worn bows, ever since her mother had given them to her as a little girl, but sometimes they felt a bit tight.
She collapsed back into bed after putting them away, nestling her head into the pillows and pulling the blankets up. She felt Tessa curl up next to her after she settled in, too, the cat giving a contented purr as she curled up. "Goodnight, Tessa." She whispered, giving the cat a few strokes on the head before closing her eyes and slowly drifting off to sleep.

Kalas heard Alice drop into sleep, but he wasn't ready, a million thoughts roving through his head. Mostly they were about Xelha, and how he missed her, but there were a few others as well. He liked having Alice with him, as another person, and that way he wasn't lonely anymore. But, he didn't want to hold her back from finding a place to settle down, especially when it seemed like that was a difficult task with her wings.
Oh, well. It wasn't something that could be solved in one night, because, after all, Alice was needed in a few of the problems mulling through his head. Closing his eyes gently, Kalas lay there for a few moments, exhausted, before drifting into an uneasy sleep.

Alice blinked a few times, slowly waking as she stirred. It was the bright light shining in through the window that'd finally woken her up, the girl slowly turning onto her back as she absently wondered what time it actually was.
Another day of work in the mines. True, it was only the second day, but after yesterday she didn't feel especially enthused about going back to Miss Jane and the tunnels. And I could end up doing this everyday. She sighed. Had anyone even told them what time to show up at the mines? Maybe they should just head there after breakfast. She glanced over at Kalas, wondering if he was awake yet.

Kalas jerked away, surprised by his nightmare ending. It had seemed like he had just drifted off, unfortunately. He didn't feel rested at all, tense and adrenaline-rushed because of his nightmare. Sitting up, yawning, he shook his head, clearing away the thoughts of the night from his mind. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Alice, sitting up and awake.
"G-Good morning, Alice." Kalas greeted her, slipping on his shirt even while he was sitting. Time to go work in the mines again. Ugh. He hoped it wouldn't prove as strenuous this time, as they had gotten to work yesterday. Could muscles grow stronger in one day?

"Good morning." Alice answered as Kalas stirred awake shortly after she did. Noticing him pull on his shirt, it occurred to her to get ready as well. She'd fallen asleep in her usual clothes, but she took a moment to at least put her bows back in and tidy up a bit. Normally she didn't care if she looked a bit messy, but, as unexciting and rough as the job was, she wanted to look somewhat put together for work.
"I'm not sure what time we're supposed to go back to the mines... Should we get breakfast and then go see what's going on there?" She suggested, absently slipping on her shoes. She wondered if they should go to the mines right away, but laboring all day on an empty stomach sounded intimidating.

Kalas nodded, stifling a yawn as he slipped out from under the covers, shivering. It was colder than yesterday, by a lot... "W-We should e-eat before d-doing a-any work." he told her, already feeling an empty ache in his stomach. Putting his shoes on, Kalas quickly opened his pack, slipping out his jacket. Donning it, he was instantly warmer, and glad that he had thought of buying one.
He yawned, standing up and turning to Alice. "A-As soon a-as you're r-ready, we c-can g-go eat." Kalas stammered, the empty ache in his stomach growing stronger. He was sore, too, mostly his arms and back, from moving everything the other day. He hoped he'd get used to it, and it'd be better by the end of the week. Which reminded Kalas of the offer Alice recieved. However, he wouldn't ask her about it, no matter how curious. Rather, he'd let her tell him in time.

"Right." Alice nodded, just finishing up tying the laces on her boots. Tessa gave a loud, restless mew as well, probably indicating that she was also hungry. The girl briefly wondered if she could leave the cat in the room after breakfast this time - she hadn't really liked leaving her out in the open by the mines. Tessa had a tendency get nervous and start meowing whenever she got left somewhere, which could be annoying for the other guests, but she probably would be safer that way.
"All right, let's go get breakfast!" She chimed, standing up. At least they probably wouldn't have to listen to a bunch of drunken miners singing during this meal, anyway. She wondered what the rest of the town was like. Did the inn have breakfast, or would they have to look for another restaurant again? She needed to get to know the village as much as she could - or at least get a feel for it - if she was debating on staying here. She decided not to think on that too much for now, though. Maybe she would know more after another day at the mines...

Kalas nodded, smiling, and led the way downstairs. There was no one to be seen in the lobby, except for a few people hanging around and the man from last night, at his desk once more. From the looks of it, no one was eating, even though it wasn't THAT early. "G-Guess there's n-no b-breakfast, huh?" he stammered, his gaze falling slightly. They'd have to look for a restaurant, so they should probably ask the man.
"E-Excuse M-me," Kalas stammered, walking up to the man at the desk, "D-Do y-you know w-where a g-good b-breakfast spot is?" He was probably the manager, and so, of course, he'd most likely know that. Probably had the town memorized, too.
The manager, busy at work scribbling stuff down on papers, didn't even bother to look up to answer. "Rice Cafe," he answered, and added the directions. "Turn left, go down a couple minutes, and it should be there. Cheap, nice, and decently good food." He glanced up, his eyes smiling. "You kids'll probably like it."

Alice tried not to frown. She didn't especially like being called a kid, but decided not to say anything - the man seemed to mean well. "Thank you, sir." She smiled instead, before heading outside the inn and following the man's directions.
Sure enough, the cafe came into view a few minutes later. It looked like they weren't the only ones with the same idea - many people appeared to be gathered around both indoor and outdoor tables, the sound of busy morning chatter audible from nearby the building.
"Rice cafe..." She wondered aloud. "Alice wonders what kind of food they serve..." She wasn't a big fan of rice - she hoped they served something else too, but perhaps it was just a name.

Kalas agreed wholeheartedly with Alice. Just rice? That really wouldn't be appealing. But, judging by all the people, though there still seemed to be plenty of room, as it was a rather large cafe, there couldn't be JUST rice. After all, why would it be so crowded if they just served rice?
He scooped up a paper menu from where there was a pile of them. Scanning it, Kalas sighed in relief inwardly. Different flavors of rice were just their specialty. They had plenty of other food, more like a restaurant. Apparently, the cafe part of their name wasn't very right, either. He gave the menu to Alice. "A-Apparently, r-rice is j-just their s-specialty." he told her.
"W-Wait here, I-I'll g-get a t-table." With that, Kalas strode away, joining the quick-moving line that was waiting for a table. All too soon, it was his turn. "T-Table for t-two, p-please." He stammered, while the lady smiled and told him it would just be a second.

"That's good." Alice smiled after Kalas looked through the menu, announcing that they served more than just rice. Rice was food - it would've worked if they'd had nothing else, but there were other things she'd much rather eat. And that way she could get give some to Tessa, too - she knew there was no way the cat would've eaten rice.
Waiting as Kalas neared the counter, she stepped up closer as the lady spoke up again.
"All right, then right this way, please." She instructed, leading them to a table near the window. Alice sat down, glancing over the menu herself as the worker passed her a copy.
"Take your time, and I'll be back in a few minutes to see if you're ready to order." The lady announced, before busily hurrying back to the desk and talking to another couple waiting.
Alice absently looked around, looking for anyone that looked like a miner. She didn't see Miss Jane, but she did see a few men that she recognized from the tunnels eating at a few of the other tables. Good. Hopefully that meant that they wouldn't be late either if other miners were still eating. Turning her attention to the menu, she started glancing through it, looking again for something that was substantial but not too expensive. "Hmm...Alice thinks she'll have the ham, goat cheese, and spinach quiche." She eventually decided.
