Ryker listened with interest. Mission 'N' sounded interesting, all right. He thought of all the possibilities it could be. He had never really done anything before but fighting in an arena, killing, that sort of stuff. It was always Stormcrest who had the new ideas, insight, told him about the outside world right after a mission. He had experienced his life through her words, and now he might be able to do the sme for her.
Speaking of which....
"Um," Ryker said hesitantly. "Knowing my...friend...she's probably burning the town by now. Is it okay if I talk to her and get things straightened out?"

Snake nodded, not surprised. "Of course."
Mouse, still looking very excited, leaned forward, grinning. "Hey, Hey, can we come with you?" Shark hit her on the head, and she retreated, mollified. "Or, not. If you don't want us to come, then Mission 'N''ll have to wait until you get back." Her grin returned. "Cause we can't do Mission 'N' without you, Ryker!"
Shark and Snake both rolled their eyes at her.

"Sure, you can come. No reason why you can't," Ryker said. "Are we coming back here? Or are we starting on Mission N right away?" He gave a small smile. "I suppose you won't tell me what Mission N is anyway, would you?"
He shook his head, rethinking the answer. "Nah. I want it to be a surprise."

Mouse had opened her mouth to tell Ryker, when he said he didn't want to know. "Oh. Well, then..." she sighed. "I'll tell you after we talk to Stormy, k? Cause we'll start right away, and we won't come back here at all..." A slight blush covered her face. "Which reminds me..." With that sentence, she ran past Ryker and out the door, closing it quickly behind her.
Snake laughed, while Shark groaned. "That girl..." He sighed, shaking his head. "She'll be the death of me, someday."
He was elbowed in the ribs by Snake. "You were the one who adopted her, Shark. Honestly, sometimes I wonder what would've happened to her if you hadn't..." Snake trailed off, before grinning brightly, though it didn't reach his eyes. "I can't imagine her as 'Clarrisse...'"

Ryker didn't comment about Mouse's human name. It wasn't his place. However, he was curious to where Mouse had gone.
"I take it Snake won't be coming with, then," said Ryker, turning away from where Mouse had left. He studied the leader, wishing he could have more time to figure out his personality. Though Snake made his feel more comfortable, he still felt...
He sighed, realizing that Snake wasn't the only person he would be saying goodbye to. Stormcrest, stubborn and freewilled as she was, blockheaded at times even, he would miss her.
He blinked, shocked at himself. How can friends turn into enemies so fast, and then turn back to friends?

Shark folded his arms across his chest, frowning darkly. "No." Snake opened his mouth, ready to say something, though it didn't look protesting, but Shark shook his head. "No. You're unwell, you stay in bed. You weren't planning on the 'N' Mission, and you're not going on any others, either. Not even scouting. What would we do without a leader?"
Snake smiled. "You're younger than me, and you sound like a mother." He sat down in a chair, sighing. "I can imagine it if I was gone, though. Ryker'd be the diplomatic one. Mouse'd do training and missions. You'd be the commanding force that made sure things'd actually get done." Shark's frown grew darker.

Ryker froze, his blood freezing like ice. "Don't talk like that Snake!" The leader was sick! He felt torn. "Part of the fight is in your head. If you already accept the worse, the you've lost part of the battle."
He shivered. "Shark is right, no one could fill your role as leader."

Snake laughed at Ryker's reaction. "Calm down, I was just kidding!" His eyes didn't laugh, remaining haunted-looking, as they had the entire time. "I'm not planning on making anyone attend my funeral anytime soon. Besides," He stood up, "I'm fine! Shark's just worrying too much."
Face growing darker, Shark gave his leader a look. "And I suppose the coughing up blood, internally bleeding, and chest pains are just an act, right?" Snake shut up, mollified. "That's what I thought." By their bantering back and forth, it was easy to tell that the two were VERY close friends.

Ryker flinched at Snake's words. Internall bleeding...His mind trailed back to his life underground, in a cage, waiting to be thrown into training, sent to kill. Many of the anima down there were near death, after being underground for so long. Their deathly pale skin, look of starvation, pleading to be rescued. Motionless bodies. He hadn't realized he had stopped breathing. He exhaled, his mind becoming clearer.
"I'm sorry," he chocked. "Snake."

Snake smiled at the younger boy. "It's alright. Everyone's so frantic, getting every kind of underground doctor possible. Honestly, you think I'd keel-" his words were interrupted by a round of coughing, though very quick. Snake straightened up, swallowing a looking disgusted. "Ergh. Your own blood tastes nasty after awhile."
Mouse clicked open the door, slipping back in. "Snake, did I hear you coughing?" She looked worried. "Have you been taking the medicine that the doctors subscribed you?"
Snake smiled. "Every bit that EVERY single doctor has prescribed. It get annoying, let me tell you. Being swamped in all those remedies..." He laughed, slightly hoarsely. "I'd rather not take them, thank you very much."

"I suppose...one could take too much medication that it would be then harmful forthe body," Ryker concluded. "Maybe we should leave Snake to rest...." he felt guilty for keeping all of Snake's time and energy. "How long has this been going on?"

Snake shrugged. "At least a year, not sure..." He sat down, tired.
Shark glanced his direction, worried, and then turned his gaze back to Ryker. "A year and a half."
Mouse shook her head, a frown on her face. "No, you're both wrong. It's 1 year, 7 months, 2 weeks, and 4 days." Snake and Shark stared at her. "What? I have a tally thing in my notebook..." She looked down at her feet, abashed. They stopped staring at her, however, mollified.

Mouse's accuracy only shocked Ryker more. These three were really close, something he was sure he could never comprehend.....or ever experience. His eyes fell, feeling disgraced. He had forgotten what family was like. Stormcrest was family, but at times it didn't feel like it. There had been moments where there had been arguements and misunderstandings, lies even. His complicated past only made things worse.

Mouse, seeing Ryker's face fall, misinterpreting it. "Ryker, don't be all gloom and doom on us, got it? Snake's already doing it, and It's. Not. Helping." She lightly made her way over to him, swinging her arm over the younger boy's shoulder. "Family does not go doom and gloom. Understand?" Mouse told him, sticking a finger imperiously in his direction.
Snake sighed in exhasperation, while Shark stiffened, if that were possible by his already statuesque stance. "Mouse, he's been newly adopted. Don't be so hard on him." At her older brother's words, she stuck her tongue out at him, looking defiant.

Ryker shivered lightly. "Right. Mouse is right. Sorry Snake." He turned away from them, concentrating hard. now that he thought about it, he couldn't remember much about his family. A few words, sparse memories. The only thing he really remembered was the day he became a plus anima. He remembered when he was with Age...some at least. Deeply troubled, he closed his eyes. Family. He tried to see the faces of his father, mother and sister in his hazy mind. But to no avail. Panic spread throughout his entire body.
He had forgotten his family.
This could have only happened recently, right? What else was he going to forget? Was this related to his Attacks?
Ryker felt sick to his stomach. "Excuse me for a moment, I think I dropped something back at the entrance." With that, he stumbled out of the room.
