Lucia stopped just short of the entrance to the small village, gazing the area over. What a strange place.
Not far in the distance she could see the "purple rocks" - the canyon the village was known for. Their dark, looming shapes gave the town a confined feeling, and the air working it's way through the village tasted stale and dry. Still, despite the rundown, dustiness of the building and roads, people still hurried by her as she stood and watched, busily going about their own business.
Their town was relatively small in population, but had a decent amount of activity. Their were always treasure hunters coming in response to the rumors about treasures and artifacts in the purple rocks, and the conflicts between two opposing gangs also interested in them haunted the town. It was a bit of a rough place...but for the right people, that just meant more opportunities.
Surely there'd be some way to make money here, wouldn't there?
She didn't care how - if it didn't involve +anima, she didn't care what sort of job she got stuck with. Helping the treasure hunters? Helping someone in town? Getting hired by one of the gangs? It didn't make much difference to her. Her purpose was to help +anima live freely, but even a life like hers had a budget. She couldn't go on much longer without filling up her gillah pouch.
Sighing, she strode into the village, glancing around for anything or anyone of interest.

In the little town, the groups of people were nattering on about several different topics. some weird, some normal....some down right disgusting. But within the town, a small boy was hiding in the alleyback. He knew no one was interested in him, and he was afraid if someone was to remove his hat, someone would see his +anima marks...he would be slave material.
Shivering at the thought of be confined and being commanded to do chores, he slowly sneaked away from the crowd, but noticed that on the other side of the alley was the same. great, he was trapped....

Lucia examined the people in the crowds as she walked by, not particularly interested in any of them unless they looked like someone who held promise of a potential job. Most of them, though, looked pretty useless to her. She wrinkled her nose. There were some average families and children, of course, but there were also unsavory looking people hovering in the streets. She didn't want to waste her time with them. Maybe she should try going into a shop or other business...
Making her way through the crowded streets, she kept moving until something caught her eye. Someone was standing alone in one of the alleyways between the buildings. Odd. It was hard to tell from where she stood, but it looked like a boy, though something seemed different about him in comparison to the other villagers. At least, unlike most of the others, he wasn't already engaged in conversation. Maybe he would know something.
Breaking off from the crowd and padding down the alley, she approached the boy. "Excuse me, do you live here? Do you know of any open jobs or easy ways to make money?" His behavior had struck her as a bit odd - perhaps he didn't live here - but she figured it couldn't hurt.

The boy flinched for a second, before turning round. his young blue eyes looked directly to her, with a look of fear at first, before changing to a look of relaxed nature. He turned to face her, and shook his head, his blonde fringe flowing too. "Sorry...i dont live round here. and its really not a nice place either. I've seen loats of +anima treated badly, and all the jobs here are to watch the +anima work."
He held his arms tightly, shivering a little. "They're mean, and they dont show respect....i hate this place...."

Lucia frowned a bit at the boys words. So +anima were being mistreated here, too? She'd actually been somewhat looking forward to taking a normal job for once, but if that was happening, then she couldn't just ignore it, could she?
The boy looked nervous. He'd relaxed a bit after realizing that she wasn't hostile, but she could tell that he meant his words. It was unusual for someone to take such notice about the status of +anima - was this boy perhaps a +anima, too?
"...Are you a +anima? Who are the one's mistreating them?" She asked directly, cautiously lowering her voice so that no one else could hear.

He flinched at the question, looking at her long and hard. Soon, he lowered his gaze, and his defencive wall of his arms. He sighed out, and after thinking of the right words...he nodded. "Yeah....but you cant tell anyone! the guards are the worst" He pointed to the hotel. Two tall guards were laughing at a small girl, who had (at the time) wolf ears. Then something so disturbing happened! They smacked her across the face, sending her back a few feet. she ran off, cupping her bleeding face.
"It's not right...its just not right!" The boy muttered as his fists clentched. "I wish i could help...but im not exactly physically strong...."

Lucia followed the boy's gesture to the hotel, her fingernails digging into her palms as she watched the guards hit the young girl. She gritted her teeth, about to charge forward instinctively before the girl ran off.
She forced a sigh - maybe it was for the best that she didn't charge right in. With the two guards and so many people in the village that supposedly mistreated +anima, she wouldn't stand a chance if she ended up picking a fight against all of them. She would have to do something, but rushing right in alone wouldn't be wise.
She turned back to the boy. "Don't worry - I am too. I won't tell." She assured quietly. Even if he wasn't much of a fighter, it was still nice to hear that someone else wanted to help. "I'm Lucia Hallis. What's your name?"

The boy looked over to her, and smiled quickly, hugging her instantly. He hopped up and down on the spot for a little. "YAY! finally someone else whose a +an--" He stopped hismself before giving away his secret, and looked to her in her eyes. he stepped back, and tilted his head. "Wheres your mark, and what animal?"

Lucia tensed in surprise at the sudden embrace, not used to such things, but then smiled a bit at his excitement.
"My hands." She answered as he asked her about her marks and animal. She briefly took off one of the leather gloves that usually hid her markings, exposing one of the spiral-like patterns that were on top of both of her hands. "I'm a fossa +anima. You?"

The boy gazed apon the markings, they were pretty. They really suited this girl he thought. He looked up to her, and nodded. "Oh yeah..." He took off his hat, and pulled back his blonge fringer, showing a line across his fore head, with the end spiralling round. "Im a mountain goat anima. i grow horns and can climb really well!" He stated, proudly, as if to show off.

Lucia smiled. A mountain goat +anima? Unusual. She'd never seen anyone with markings around their forehead before, either. She supposed it could come in handy, though. Aside from the agility boost, hers wasn't always all that useful.
"What's your name?" She asked again, realizing that she didn't know it. Absently, she gazed back out at the rather vulgar crowd. "How did you get caught up in this?" Had he come here looking for work like she had?

Edwardo pulled his hat back down, and made it comfy, moving his fringe out of the way. "Im edwardo. nice to meet you...uh....whats your name?" He asked, tilting his head slightly, stretching up to look to her face. He gave a childish smile, and answered again "I was coming here to get some supplies. but before i knew it, i was caught up here, being thrown around like a ball" He twirled on the spot to add effect.

"Lucia Hallis. Nice to meet you, as well." She answered politely, still happy to be talking with another +anima. "I came out here in search of job or some other means to get money, but to be honest, I didn't expect to find trouble in such an out of the way place like this..."
She sighed. The people who usually worked with her when she was fighting +anima haters weren't there, and she didn't have a chance at making an impact by herself. "Did you meet any other +anima being bullied or held captive?" She asked, turning back to the boy, Edwardo. "My real job is working with a gang that fights things like this, but none of them are here. Do you think any of those +anima would fight back if freed?"

The boy shook his head. "From what ive seen, the only +anima here are young children. the oldest person ive seen couldnt be older than 16...Theres been a lot of girls here too, which is making me think this is a vile place to be..." He turned his head to the building.
"Thats the place i went into at first, but was thrown out. something about me being too young or something...or maybe for being male" He thought about it.

Lucia cringed at what Edwardo was implying. Were the people here really...? She felt her fists clench.
She stared hard at the building he gestured to for a moment. "I'm going to check it out." She announced with a glance at the boy, starting to walk towards it. Perhaps it wasn't the wisest decision, but she could already feel rage coursing through her that would keep her from just walking away. Humans were disgusting sometimes.
